At Linville Plastic Surgery, we understand how vital it is to be confident in your appearance. That’s why Dr. Linville offers a range of treatments and procedures that can rejuvenate the skin and tissue of the neck.
What is a Neck Lift?
The skin and tissue of the neck are exceptionally vulnerable to signs of aging. Firstly, the neck is regularly exposed to sunlight. Even when you wear a hat, it tends to only protect your upper face.
Also, the skin is continuously tugged and pulled. We don’t notice it, but every time we nod or turn our heads, our neck tissue is at work. This thin layer of skin can wear out over time, resulting in a sagging appearance.
Everyone has a unique situation. That’s why Dr. Linville offers several options for neck rejuvenation, both surgical and non-surgical:
Each of these treatments focuses on tightening the skin around the neck. Some are less invasive than others, so choosing the right treatment often depends on your goals.
After a consultation, Dr. Linville will advise the best option for you to achieve the results you want. He will fully inform you of which treatment will bring you closer to your aesthetic goals.
Who Is a Candidate for Neck Lift Surgery?
A traditional neck lift is a surgical means of tightening the tissues of the neck. While non-surgical options are available, a neck lift offers visible and long-lasting results.
The best neck lift candidates are those with excess skin that hangs or looks like crepe paper. Patients may also have banding on the neck, which creates an aged look. For best results, patients should be at their ideal, stable weight. Weight fluctuations after surgery can cause changes in your results.
As a neck lift is a surgical procedure, we advise that patients be in good health at the time of surgery. This includes avoiding smoking in the weeks leading up to surgery and during recovery.

Can It Be Combined With Other Procedures?
One advantage of a neck lift is that it can be part of a complete rejuvenation plan. For patients seeking a facelift or jowl lift, a neck lift can help deliver further stunning results. And, it can be performed at the same time as other procedures.
Of course, candidates should be in good health and have reasonable expectations. If you feel that you have minimal excess skin but want an improved jaw angle, that may be fixed by using some submental liposuction or through a limited incision beneath the chin. Utilizing current techniques and devices can also help tighten the skin while minimizing your incisions.
As part of your consultation, Dr. Linville will put together a complete plan to match your goals
What is Special about our Neck Lift?
The best neck lifts are those that look entirely subtle and natural, but also transformative and rejuvenating. Finding this balance requires an expert with years of experience.
The scars are always well hidden in the hairline or within the hair itself, and the banding should be gone, replaced with a beautiful smooth neck and jaw angle.
Dr. Linville often performs a corset platysmaplasty (aka Feldman platysmaplasty) to give a completely smooth look and long-lasting results.
New Options in Neck Rejuvenation
In the past couple years, several new exciting options have become available. Each of these advances in cosmetic surgery can provide beautiful, natural results, sometimes without an incision. These options are excellent for patients who want to enhance their appearance without committing to a more traditional surgery.
- Kybella – a natural enzyme that destroys fat cells and is given by several injections, often requiring more than one treatment session for optimal results. The benefit is that incisions are not necessary.
- FaceTite with or without liposuction – this is a new technology that utilizes bipolar radiofrequency for very efficient superheating of the skin and collagen fibers. This in turn causes them to condense and “shrink,” resulting in skin contraction. The internal probe for this device is about the same as an 18 gauge needle, so it doesn’t require a big incision at all. Often, this is combined with liposuction to optimize the effect after fat has been directly removed.
The Neck Lift Process
The first step is a consultation, where Dr. Linville will determine if you are a good candidate. Each consultation is personal and thorough. There are three main points to each meeting:
- Together, you will go over goals of surgery.
- You will have a chance to fully convey your expectations and weight them against your options.
- Dr. Linville will help you feel comfortable with the procedure by providing information and answering questions.
From that point on, Dr. Linville and his staff will continue to work to make you comfortable throughout the entire process. We aim for the consultation to be a fun, relaxed atmosphere where you, as the patient, get to talk one-on-one with the doctor. By the end, you should have a good idea of what Dr. Linville feels he can achieve.
Neck Lift Recovery
Probably the most asked question or feared is, will there be a lot of pain. Dr. Linville works diligently to help minimize pain and discomfort with the use of anesthetics and intraoperative long-acting medications.
Most patients do not experience sharp pain after surgery, but rather a slight discomfort. Swelling is typical afterward. But, it generally resolves after two weeks. Final results are usually not completely evident until after 3-6 months. During the initial healing period, it is vital to give your body time to rest and recover.
Sutures are removed at about one week after surgery. And bruising, if any, is usually resolved after a couple of weeks. The incisions are well hidden behind the ear, and Dr. Linville will keep a close eye on your incisions to ensure proper healing. Throughout the recovery process, Dr. Linville is available for checkups to make sure you are healing well.

Neck Lift for Men
Dr. Linville understands that male patients require an adapted neck lift procedure to cater to their facial structure and aesthetic goals, which is why he takes the time to tailor each treatment specifically for them. This male version of the neck lift allows men to experience the restorative experience of a neck lift while still maintaining a distinctly masculine appearance.
Dr. Linville and his team take into account factors such as skin thickness, age-related laxity, fat deposits, and other unique characteristics of each patient when performing this adapted version of a neck lift. As with any procedure, the goal is to provide a tailored experience that meets the patient’s individual needs and wants while still delivering natural-looking results with a masculine structure.
A proper neck lift for men can enhance the jawline, providing a more chiseled appearance that reduces key signs of aging, such as skin laxity, banding, and sagginess. The end result is a neck area that exhibits a youthful, masculine contour for years-long results.
