Brazilian Butt Lift Overview
The procedure involves taking select fat cells of the patient and reinjecting them into their buttocks. The benefit of a BBL is that it can shape multiple parts of your body at once. While it can increase your buttocks’ size, it can also decrease the size of the area where the fat comes from. This can help shape your figure into the look you want and makes it a highly sought-after procedure.

Is Buttock Augmentation Right for Me?
We understand that feeling confident about your body is essential to your quality of life. And a BBL can help many patients reach that goal. Still, there are some factors that can determine if this procedure is right for you.- The Right BMI: The optimal BMI for a BBL is around 32 or slightly higher. While you should be close to your goal weight, there will need to be enough fat on your body to remove and reinject.
- Tired of Sagging: Aging, pregnancy, and weight fluctuation can decrease the volume and perkiness of your buttocks. If gravity has impacted the look of your behind, a lift can help.
- Want to Balance Body Proportions: For women with a thicker waist, a lift can even out your curves. Some women also notice that as they age, their hips begin to dip. This dip can be filled in with a fat transfer making your curves more rounded.
- Be in Good Health: You need to be in good overall health. This includes a healthy diet and exercise, low alcohol use, and no smoking at least one month before and after surgery. The better your health, the better your results will be.

What happens During a Brazilian Butt Lift?
Before the procedure, you will need to attend your preoperative visit. This will help prepare you on:
- How to get ready for surgery
- What will happen during surgery
- How to prepare for your recovery
The procedure itself typically takes a few hours, and Dr. Linville is with you every step of the way. His goal with each procedure is to deliver stunning results in a comfortable environment.
To prepare, you will need to eat healthily and exercise regularly. Unless advised by Dr. Linville, you do not need to lose or gain any weight through exercise. It is merely a preparation to be sure that your body is in good health before surgery. You will need to abstain from tobacco use at least one month before surgery.
The Procedure at a Glance
The procedure involves harvesting fat cells through liposuction. Once the fat cells are collected, it is purified. Once ready, the fat is injected into your behind in a fan pattern to match the natural shape of your behind.
After the fat is injected, the majority of it will thrive within the area. The newly injected fat must get new blood supply from the surrounding area, so it will take some time to process. It’s important to help the newly injected fat survive.
You cannot put pressure on your buttocks within the first two weeks of surgery. You’ll also need to sit on a special pillow, and you cannot sleep on your back. Your body will reabsorb the cells that don’t survive without issue.

What happens during a Brazilian Butt Lift?
Before the procedure, you will need to attend your preoperative visit. This will help prepare you for how to get ready for surgery, what will happen during surgery, and how to prepare for your recovery in advance. The procedure itself takes a few hours, and Dr. Linville is with you every step of the way.
To prepare, you will need to eat healthy and exercise regularly. Unless advised by Dr. Linville, you do not need to lose or gain any weight through exercise. It is merely a preparation to be sure that your body is in good health before surgery. You will need to abstain from tobacco use at least one month before surgery.
The procedure involves harvesting fat cells through liposuction. Once the fat cells are collected, they include numerous other materials like blood and tissue, which need to be removed. This involves a fat purification process. Once purified, the fat is put into special syringes that can be later injected into your buttocks. The fat is then injected into your behind in a fan pattern so that the results can match the natural shape of your behind.
After the fat is injected, the majority of it will thrive within the area. The newly injected fat must get new blood supply from the surrounding area, so it will take some time to process (roughly seven to ten days). It’s important to help the newly injected fat survive. You cannot put pressure on your buttocks within the first two weeks of surgery. You’ll also need to sit on a special pillow, and you cannot sleep on your back. Your body will reabsorb the cells that don’t survive without issue.
Butt Lift Recovery and Downtime
As an outpatient procedure, you can return home the same day. Still, you will need to attend follow up appointments with Dr. Linville to ensure you are healing correctly. For the first two weeks, you will want to focus on resting. Avoid sleeping on your back or sitting on your buttocks for at least two weeks after surgery. Even after this time, we advise keeping pressure to a minimum for your buttocks.
You will experience some swelling and bruising, but this is entirely normal. With prescribed mediation, you can manage these easily enough. You will also receive a special pillow to help with this for the first couple of weeks. Dr. Linville and his staff strive to make the recovery process as comfortable and convenient as possible.
Since your BBL involved liposuction, you will also be recovering from that. We advise that you not exercise or lift anything for at least two to three weeks after surgery. You will also need to wear a compression garment to help with any swelling. After two to three weeks, most patients can start some light exercise and moderate lifting. As long as everything is healing as expected, you should be completely back to normal within six weeks. At that point, you can begin more intense exercising and return to your full daily routine.
When Can I See Brazilian Butt Lift Results?
It’s important to remember that the initial volume will go down after the first two months. The fat cells need time to stabilize. Once the swelling goes down, you will be able to see your actual results. Sometimes Dr. Linville will suggest a second procedure if a lot of fat needs to be transferred to meet your goals. However, most patients are usually fine with just one. Still, we recommend patience, as results are the most accurate after the two-month mark.

BRAZILIAN BUTT LIFT for Men
Having full and well-shaped buttocks can be a powerful way for a man to enhance his appearance as well. That is why we are proud to also provide tailored male BBL procedure options at Linville Plastic Surgery. The procedure works on the same core principle as a traditional BBL: we use liposuction to remove fat and contour one part of the body, and then we relocate that fat to the buttocks.
However, for the male BBL, we focus on preserving a distinctly masculine shape to the buttons. In most cases, this means enhancing the volume of the buttocks without adding too much roundness. The shape aims to preserve the masculine shape of how the buttock region blends in with the thighs and the lower torso. In many cases, it can deliver a more athletic appearance and a sculpted butt contour.
However, we work with each patient on an individual basis to understand what their personal aesthetic preference is. Every body is unique in its shape and features, and we enjoy working with patients to build upon their distinct features for natural-looking results that synchronize with their personal physical ideals.
