WHAT IS BREAST REDUCTION?
SIGNS YOU MIGHT NEED BREAST REDUCTION
Physical Discomfort: Women experiencing chronic back, neck, or shoulder pain due to heavy breasts find relief through this procedure.
Posture Improvement: Breast reduction often leads to improved posture, reducing strain on the spine.
Enhanced Quality of Life: The surgery addresses emotional and social concerns about body image, promoting increased self-confidence and well-being.
Breasts are always in a state of change. After childbirth or during nursing, they become enlarged. But only temporarily. Soon after, they can drop in size. Weight gain and weight loss both also affect breast size and shape.
WHO IS AN IDEAL CANDIDATE?
Not every woman considering breast reduction is an ideal candidate. If the size or weight of your breasts is negatively affecting you, then you are likely a candidate. Likely candidates typically are looking for one or more of the following benefits:

DIFFERENT TYPE OF BREAST REDUCTION METHODS
BIOABSORBABLE MESH
For severely heavy large breasts that may bottom out regardless of technique. Uses a new mesh that absorbs over time but leaves an internal sling or internal bra to help maintain the breast in its new position.
LIMITED-INCISION TECHNIQUES
Newer short-scar or vertical-only type incisions can minimize scarring. Not every patient is a candidate.
Dr. Linville will discuss these options with you during the consultation. He will determine if these are appropriate in your instance.
BREAST REDUCTION PROCEDURE
The breast reduction procedure typically involves several key steps. The first step is a consultation. During your meeting, Dr. Linville will review your medical history and determine if you are a good candidate. He will also individualize your treatment plan.
For the procedure, you will be under general anesthesia, and one of our surgeons make incisions according to the chosen technique. Subsequently, excess breast tissue, fat, and skin are removed, and the remaining breast tissue is reshaped. Nipples are repositioned to achieve a more natural and proportionate appearance. The incisions are then meticulously closed, leaving minimal scarring.
If this is a medical breast reduction, you may need to obtain supporting documentation. This can include a recent mammogram and insurance authorization. Dr. Linville and his staff will work with you every step of the way. We aim to make the process easy while also looking out for your safety.

RECOVERY AND DOWNTIME
Understanding the recovery process is crucial for individuals undergoing breast reduction surgery. Immediately post-surgery, patients are monitored briefly before being allowed to return home. It’s essential to follow Dr. Linville’s surgeon’s postoperative instructions diligently. Initially, patients may experience swelling and discomfort, but these symptoms gradually subside.
Engaging in strenuous activities is restricted during the initial weeks of recovery to facilitate proper healing. Most individuals can return to work within a week, but full recovery may take several weeks, depending on individual healing capacities. Following the prescribed aftercare plan is crucial to ensure optimal results. Once fully healed, your breasts will appear healthier, shapely, and more comfortable.
